Arab League condemns Israel plan to occupy Gaza calling it “a blatant act of aggression”
(MENAFN) An emergency Arab League meeting on Sunday denounced Israel’s intentions to take full control of the Gaza Strip, labeling the move “a blatant act of aggression” against all Arab nations and a direct threat to security and stability across the region.
In its closing statement from the Cairo gathering of permanent representatives, the League urged the global community to pressure Israel to end what it described as a genocidal war and starvation tactics targeting Palestinians in Gaza.
The organization condemned “the decisions and plans of the Israeli occupation government to impose full military control over the Gaza Strip, displace the Palestinian people, and commit crimes of aggression, genocide, and ethnic cleansing in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, including the city of Jerusalem.”
According to the statement, these actions “constitute a violation of international law and conventions, a blatant act of aggression against all Arab states, their national security, and political and economic interests, and a threat to security, peace, and stability in the region.”
Reports indicated that Israel’s Security Cabinet recently endorsed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s proposal to fully occupy Gaza City, a move that has faced strong criticism from various governments and human rights organizations worldwide.
The Arab League reaffirmed its backing for Egyptian-Qatari mediation aimed at achieving a ceasefire and ending Israel’s military campaign against the Palestinians. It also urged the international community, particularly the United States, “to pressure Israel, the occupying power, to cease its aggression and crimes against the Palestinian people… and end its illegal occupation.”
